AUSTIN (KXAN) — An Austin airport wheelchair assistant admitted to stealing a $2,500 bracelet from an elderly woman May 25.
Shelia Knowles-Washington, 51, was allegedly helping a woman through security at the airport when the bracelet went missing. The woman’s daughter told police she put the gold bracelet in a bin on the conveyor belt, but was unable to find it once through security.
Austin police reviewed surveillance footage identifying Knowles as the one who took the piece of jewelry. According to the affidavit, the video shows Knowles pick up the bin with the bracelet and return it empty. When questioned by police, Knowles confessed to taking the bracelet and pawning it at EZ Pawn on June 7.
Washington was employed by Huntliegh, a company that helps people in wheelchairs through the airport.
Knowles now faces theft charges.
