LAKE PFLUGERVILLE, Texas (KXAN) — The Pflugerville Fire Department worked on their water rescue skills Tuesday at Lake Pflugerville.

Fire Captain Robert Ortiz says conditions on the lake can be windy, so it attracts kite surfers who can find themselves exhausted and stranded in the water.

“We have to make sure we have a cadre of guys who are capable of making the distance swim to make initial patient contact, to put some sort of flotation device on the patient and stabilize them, before we either bring them to shore by ourselves or air assets like STAR Flight.”

Keep an eye out, they’ll be on the lake the next couple of days doing some more training.
