FREDERICKSBURG, Texas (KXAN) — The fire that claimed historic Turner Hall on June 19 is being investigated as an arson.

Fredericksburg police say the department has found evidence that someone entered the hall before the fire to steal something. Police believe that person started the fire.

The department has identified a person of interest in the investigation, but have not ruled out the possibility of additional people involved. The name of the person of interest has not been released.

The fire started around 10:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 19 and burned for several hours before firefighters were able to put it out.

The State Fire Marshal still lists the cause of the fire as undetermined. Turner Hall, a popular venue for weddings, was established in 1871.

Anyone with information or possible surveillance video from the area is asked to call Detective Kris Kammlah at 830-997-7585 or Crime Stoppers at 830-997-TIPS.
