AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin Police Department announced Monday there were no arrests during Operation Dry Water this past weekend.

The annual nationwide operation targeted intoxicated boaters from Friday through Sunday, a week before the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

Austin police lake patrol conducted 55 watercraft stops and inspections, handing out 21 citations for safety violations and another 55 warnings. There were zero boating while intoxicated arrests, the department said. Police also wanted to remind boaters that personal watercraft are banned from Lake Austin for the Fourth of July weekend.

The percentage of boating fatalities caused by alcohol has decreased from 19 to 16 percent in the United States since the operation began. Since 2009, police have removed 1,875 BWI operators from the nation’s waterways.
