AUSTIN (KXAN) — A local program is focusing on helping those over 50 get involved in the community.

The Coming of Age program is part of Travis County Health and Human Services and Veterans Services. The Director, Fred Lugo, joined us in the studio to tell you how to get involved.

Coming of Age program The program has two major focuses. They hope to help people over 50 explore their interests, become community leaders, pursue lifelong learning, and engage in meaningful service.

They also help organizations learn how to reach out to volunteers and effectively leverage the valuable resources, skills, and passions of people over 50. In addition they are beginning what is called the “Leadership Academy” for selected volunteers and are looking for recruits.
