AAA predicts record number of Independence Day travelers

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A new report from AAA predicts a record 43 million Americans will travel over the Independence Day weekend.

The number represents an increase of half a million travelers as compared to 2015. Of the record number of travelers, AAA reports 36 million will drive to their Independence Day destinations.

Low gas prices could play a role in the extra travelers. A gallon of regular gasoline is an average of 45 cents lower than Independence Day 2015, the lowest in eleven years.

An estimated 3.43 million travelers will fly over the Independence Day weekend, an increase of more than two percent.
