Summer is here and that means we’re going to start seeing a lot of grass pollen in the air. Because of the crazy amount of rain we saw in Spring, this summer’s allergies might be worse than others.
If you’re allergic to grasses, here’s a few ways to keep your summer fun and allergy free:
- Limit the window and top down rides through the city
Your car and home can be your refuge from grass pollen. Limit your exposure by keeping windows and doors closed and convertible tops up.
- Cover your nose and mouth with a bandanna when mowing, hedging or doing any sort of landscaping
Disturbing grasses is an easy way to get up close and personal with the irritating pollens. Covering your nose and mouth will help limit the amount of allergens that wind up in your body.
- Wash your face after being outside for an extended time
Take a moment to wash away the pollen that may be attached to your skin. Washing the pollen off your face will reduce chances you will ingest any of the allergens.
- If your allergies get too bad, take over the counter meds for quick, temporary relief.
If over-the-counter allergy medicines aren’t cutting it, you should see your allergist to discuss bringing in the big guns.
