Suspicious device found in Pflugerville park

PFLUGERVILLE, Texas (KXAN) — Police blocked off Springbrook Glen Community Park on Gantry Drive Thursday night, after a suspicious device was found.

Authorities were called around 7:30 p.m., when a neighbor saw the object inside a storm drain. Assistant Pflugerville Police Chief Jim McLean said, based on the neighbor’s photo, the device seemed to be incendiary. The device was secured and removed from the park at around 11 p.m.

Austin police say their bomb squad was sent to help investigate. The determined the device resembled a cardboard tube the diameter of a paper towel roll with wires inside.

Neighbors say a briefcase was found in the park and that normally the park is very busy. The city is asking everyone in the Springbrook subdivision to stay clear of the area.

No one has been evacuated. The city of Pflugerville says the investigation lasted until 11:30 p.m.
