AUSTIN (KXAN) — Travis County sheriff’s deputies need your help after a man was shot during a north Travis County break-in. The search is on now for three teenagers who ran from a crime scene.
The injured man was found on Wild Senna Drive in between Austin and Pflugerville on Thursday, June 2.
“This scares me, my kids can’t sleep at night. They sleep in my room and they all have their own rooms. They sleep with us because they’re so scared,” said a woman who lives along Wild Senna Drive. She asked us not to disclose her name because the three suspects are still on the loose.
Five minutes after returning home from work Thursday, a single gunshot rang out in the quiet neighborhood. A man stumbled onto her doorstep and collapsed. She hasn’t had time to scrub off all the blood.
“He was fighting for his life. There was no way I could’ve left him outside. I would never do that,” she said.
She brought him inside and called 911. Deputies say he was shot after confronting three teenagers attempting to break in to his garage. The man ran to find anyone who could help.
“I was trying to calm him down because he was moving a lot,” the neighbor said. What scared her and other families we spoke with today was how this happened in broad daylight. With children outside and families walking their dogs.
“I was praying for him and calling the cops and while I was on the phone he was making a snoring sound like he was passing already,” she said.
An ambulance arrived and took him to a Round Rock hospital in critical condition. The neighbor’s good deed might be one of her last in this home.
“This happened and it is the perfect time to move. This is too much,” she said.
Others people here just hope for the three to be caught. Travis County is asking anyone with information to call their tip line at 512-472-TIPS.
