Fake cop robbing men in Austin

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin police say they’re searching for a man who is posing as a security guard or police officer and robbing people.

Police say the suspect is wanted in three aggravated robberies that started on May 21 and continued through May 30. All of the cases have happened in the north and northeast corridor and in between the hours of 11 p.m. and 1 a.m.

The robbery suspect, who is usually dressed in a dark blue security guard uniform, approaches the victims and ask for their ID. While armed with a gun, police say he then robs the victims. He appears to be targeting Hispanic men that are out late in apartment complexes.

The suspect is described as:

  • Black male
  • 25 – 30 years of age
  • 5’8” to 6’0”
  • 150-165 lbs

He drives a newer model, gray, four-door sedan, possibly a Hyundai.
