SAN MARCOS (KXAN) — Passengers riding an Amtrak train were evacuated Wednesday night in San Marcos after someone spotted a suspicious package on the train.

The Texas Eagle train was on a route from Chicago to Los Angeles when it made the stop in San Marcos at 10:15 p.m. Austin Police sent their bomb squad unit to investigate.

Ultimately, officials determined it was a box of papers. Amtrak says all 160 passengers re-boarded the train at 1 a.m. Thursday and went on to their destination. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
