AUSTIN (KXAN) — A new company is helping Austinites get affordable urgent care, fast.

Dr. Christopher Smith is one of the doctors on the Remedy team – their office is your living room.

“This is everything you find in a traditional urgent care center, but compacted into a MINI,” explains Dr. Smith, on his way to a patient.

“People today are busy and are looking for things to help them, things that are more convenient,” said Dr. Jeremy Gabrysch, founder of Remedy. “People don’t think of healthcare as convenient, usually an inconvenience.”

Through your smartphone, computer or by phone, patients can request a Remedy doctor. The service charges urgent care rates, as well as $49 dispatch fee. They’ll also take your insurance.

“It’s really nice, it’s a great convenience to have someone come to your home, you don’t have to worry about germs in a doctor’s office, get up and wait somewhere for an hour, hour-and-a-half,” said Julie Foster, who tried the service for the first time.

Foster says it took just an hour for a doctor to come to her house.

“I was worried she [my daughter] might have strep and with end of year and end of school, she didn’t want to miss the parties.”

Dr. Gabrysch says it’s a modern take on medicine, and that they’re working to connect people with doctors – at an affordable price.

The service is available to anyone in the Austin metro area, seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. They hope to extend hours to 10 p.m. in the future.
