AUSTIN (KXAN)- An overnight standoff between members of Austin Police’s SWAT team and a man locked inside an apartment ended Saturday morning when officers broke in but could not find the man.

Austin Police officers say they were called out to the Woodland Heights Apartments around 2:35 a.m. The apartments are on the southbound frontage road of Interstate 35 just south of Rundberg Lane.

They said the man was assaulting a woman with a butcher knife. Police were able to get the woman out to safety. The SWAT team was called when it was clear the man was not coming out.

The SWAT team entered the apartment at 8:15 a.m. and did not find the man. Police say they know who the man is and believe it is a case of domestic violence.
