AUSTIN (KXAN) — The forecast level of 28 feet for Onion Creek, according to the Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management for the city of Austin, is a sigh of relief for many residents.
The last two floods were significantly higher than that level. People are still not back in their homes from floods dating back to 2013. “It is almost surreal where these flood events happened… I can count a half dozen times in the past half dozen years…” where significant flood events have happened mainly along Onion Creek,” KXAN’s Jim Spencer said.
The city of Buda says the Onion Creek Village Apartments on Bluff Street and 2770 in Buda has been evacuated. Around 30 people were evacuated to the Emergency Operations Center at Buda City Hall. There have been no injuries, the city says.
The city has been working to buy out several homes int he Onion Creek area since repeated severe flooding has hit the area.
