AUSTIN (KXAN) — A new website will be unveiled Wednesday, for school districts and parents to learn more about the effectiveness and efficiency of local schools.
The website is called Texas Smart Schools. It was created by former State Comptroller, Susan Combs and Texas A&M.
Students’ performance numbers will be posted to the website alongside state budget numbers. The goal is to help parents understand the value of a particular neighborhood when buying a home. The website will also help educators identify top performing schools.
“They would be able to see a point of light somewhere else, something going on at another elementary school in the area. Then of course businesses who absolutely depend on a well educated, ready to work workforce,” said Combs. “So when you have all three that want this information, it allows them to decide where they want to go, where to focus and allocate their resources and efforts.”
Texas had a similar program called “Fast,” but it stopped after Combs left office. Using leftover campaign money, Combs funded the creation of Texas Smart Schools.
