AUSTIN (KXAN) — Principal Katie Pena moved her office to the top of Highland Park Elementary School, Monday.
It was her students’ reward for meeting their goal for their annual fun run. They ran 16,000 laps to support healthy habits.
They also raised more than $46,000 for their school. “Our goal was $43,000 and we at Highland Park work hard, meet our goals and follow through,” Pena said.
Heather Powell, a parent volunteer up on the roof with the principal, said, “It is so endearing to see these kids not motivated [by] anything other than commitment to a cause.”
All the money raised will focus on improving technology at Highland Park. It will also go toward creative learning initiatives and field trips.
