AUSTIN (KXAN) — A man who died in a crash while drag racing on Dessau Road Friday night has been identified by police.

Authorities say a red car and a silver car were drag racing northbound on the 9500 block of Dessau, when the red car lost control and went into oncoming traffic, hitting a van. The driver of the red car, Faustino Torres Mijes, 29, of Austin, was pronounced dead at the scene after he was ejected from the vehicle.

The silver car left the scene, APD says.

The driver of the van was taken to University Medical Center Brackenridge with injuries not expected to be life-threatening.

A police spokesperson said Friday he was not aware of drag racing being a problem in the area.
