Study finds a rise in strokes among young people

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Results from a study by the American Heart Association finds alarming numbers about the risk of strokes in the country.

In the last decade, the number of people who had to go to the hospital due to a stroke has dropped. However, the rise in strokes has jumped to 44 percent for those between the ages of 25 to 44, according to the Journal of the American Heart Association.

Dr. Angel Pulido, stroke medical director at St. David’s Medical Center, joined Erin Cargile in the studio to talk about common risk factors and ways to prevent the chances of getting a stroke.
