AUSTIN, (KXAN) — Just in time for Military Appreciation Month, one non-profit is raising money for veterans by doing push ups.

Boot Campaign‘s Push Ups for Charity is kicking off their annual fundraising event to raise awareness for challenges faced by military service members across the country. The nationwide event kicks off Saturday on Armed Forces Day and ends in November on Veterans Day.

For each push up done by volunteers throughout the event, money is raised to support veterans that served in the military. This year’s goal for the charity is to award over 500 grants to deserving veterans families. The fundraiser helps veterans with housing assistance, career and education resources and additional financial support.

Hero Ambassador Cassandra Cantin joins us in the KXAN studio to talk about the campaign initiative.
