AUGUSTA, Kan. (KSNW) – Two people were wounded in a shooting at the Augusta High School graduation ceremonies Sunday afternoon.

Butler County Sheriff Kelly Herzet confirms the incident occurred about 2 p.m. at the high school’s football stadium. A woman was taken to Wesley Medical Center in serious condition. A male victim was taken to the Kansas Medical Center in Andover where he was treated and later transported to Via Christi St. Francis hospital where he was treated and released.

Authorities said the shooting appeared to be accidental.

Police said there are not enough resources to check everyone for a gun who was entering the stadium.

A sign on a fence outside the football stadium where the graduation ceremonies occurred shows firearms are banned at the facility.

Police tell KSN News the county attorney will decide whether charges will be brought against the person who brought the gun into the stadium.
