MOUNT HEALTHY, Ohio (WLWT) – An Ohio woman is in hot water after police said she called in a fake robbery to avoid paying her tab at a Gold Star Chili restaurant.
“Unbelievable” is one word workers at the Gold Star Chili in Mount Healthy used to describe Wednesday night.
“She had came in, put her stuff at the table, went to the bathroom, came back, sat down as if she was going to dine in,” said Rubee Naser, the store’s manager.
Naser said Destiny Watson, 21, ordered two crispy chicken burritos, a big salad and a drink.
The bill was a little more than $20.
Naser said that when it came time to pay, Watson made excuses.
“(She) claimed that she was waiting for her mom to come pay,” Naser said.
She said Watson stayed for about three hours. Surveillance video shows the woman still in the restaurant even as the sun sets. Then she leaves her seat and employees said she called 911.
“Yes, I’m up at the Gold Star on Hamilton Avenue and we need the police department right now,” Watson told dispatchers.
She reported that two armed men inside, robbing the store, and a third was outside in a car.
It would hardly be the first robbery for this location: just a few weeks ago, workers faced three armed men who snatched cash from customers and workers.
But there was no robbery this time.
“OK, have you been robbed?” the 911 dispatcher asked.
“Uh, no?” the employee responded.
Still, the police response was spectacular: 14 officers from three different police departments responded.
Watson is charged with disrupting public service, making false alarms and theft and is being held in the Hamilton County Detention Center on a $30,000 bond.
