MANOR, Texas (KXAN) — The superintendent with El Paso Independent School District plans to make the move to Manor Independent School District. On Tuesday, the Manor ISD Board of Trustees named Dr. Royce Avery as the lone finalist for the superintendent position.
The district says Dr. Avery has worked in the Texas public education system for more than 20 years. Prior to becoming a superintendent at El Paso ISD and Aransas Pass ISD, Avery was a principal at various schools throughout the state.
“We are very excited about Dr. Avery joining Manor ISD,” said Board President Marlin Thomas in a statement. “This was a difficult process and one we did not take lightly. The Board had the opportunity to speak with some very qualified applicants, but Dr. Avery proved to best fit the community’s superintendent profile. We are confident that he will be able to hit the ground running and look forward to having his leadership in the District.
The Austin-area won’t be new to Dr. Avery since he received his doctorate in education from the University of Texas at Austin.
The Board expects to extend a contract to Dr. Avery at the end of May.
Avery will replace Kevin Brackmeyer, who resigned at the end of February. Brackmeyer will remain as an employee with the district until February 2017. He has moved into a newly created role called the District Special Projects Liaison.
