Houston teacher arrested on child pornography charges

Jason Dion Johnson - NBC News

HOUSTON, Texas (KPRC) – A Houston teacher is off the job after being arrested on child pornography charges.

50-year-old Jason Dion Johnson could spend the next several decades in prison, because he’s accused of downloading child pornography on his computer, and videotaping young girls getting undressed in what could be a school changing room.

Johnson came to federal court on Wednesday to face a judge for those allegations. He used to be a seventh grade social studies teacher at Beechnut Academy.

According to court documents, FBI agents searched Johnson’s apartment and found “VHS tapes that revealed the presence of what appeared to be hidden camera video from a clothes changing area within a school.”

Investigators say the recordings were not taken at Beechnut Academy, but won’t say where the recordings were made.

HISD officials say Johnson worked for Camelot Schools of Texas, that’s the company that has a contract with HISD to run Beechnut Academy.

Camelot officials sent Channel 2 Investigates a statement reading: “During his tenure under our management showed no indication of abnormal or inappropriate behavior with students. We are heartened by the fact that none of Mr. Johnson’s alleged criminal activity took place at school.”

Johnson has since been fired by the school.

If convicted, Johnson faces between five and 20 years imprisonment, as well as another 10 years in prison.
