PFLUGERVILLE, Texas (KXAN) — An 85-year-old woman is dead following a crash Tuesday morning at a troublesome intersection in Pflugerville. The Department of Public Safety said the woman, identified as Dolores Madeline Miner, failed to yield while making a turn onto Pecan Street from 3 Points Road and collided with an oncoming vehicle.

Businesses on 3 Points Road say the intersection is one they try to avoid due to the high speed of traffic on Pecan Street combined with the awkward angle of the intersection.

“It is the speed and the angle,” said David Mullins. “You have to turn your head to get out there.”

Derek Harris works at Convergence Cabling and said employees have been told to avoid the intersection.

“No employee is allowed to make a left-hand turn from 3 Points onto Pecan anymore. Not until there is a light there or they shut it down.”

Blocking the road or shutting it down to one-way traffic were some of the ideas businesses discussed while talking to KXAN. They said 3 Points Road has become a cut-through road for drivers getting to and from I-35, leading to increased traffic on the road which leads to the intersection where Tuesday’s fatal crash happened. The road is maintained by the Texas Department of Transportation who said crews routinely assess safety improvements on their roads.

One other woman was taken to a hospital in Round Rock where she was treated and released according to DPS.

TxDOT released the following crash statistics for this stretch of FM 1825/3 Points Road:
