AUSTIN (KXAN) — A man was seriously injured Tuesday after he was swept over Longhorn Dam.

The man in his 20s entered Lady Bird Lake upstream of the dam. He fell around 70 feet when he was swept over, Austin-Travis County EMS said.

His injuries are not expected to be life-threatening.

Police say the man may have a mental illness.

Longhorn Dam was completed in 1960, forming Town Lake. The reservoir was renamed Lady Bird Lake to honor Lady Bird Johnson in 2007.
