LEANDER (KXAN) — Work is starting to bring a new option of higher education for people living in Williamson County.

Austin Community College is expanding by adding another campus in Leander. Workers are officially breaking ground on its new ACC San Gabriel Campus Thursday morning. ACC officials plan to share the campus design during Thursday’s groundbreaking celebration.

The $60 million project is going to be built close to the Cap Metro Rail station near 183 and Hero Way.

Voters approved it in a 2014 bond package.

This new campus is going to serve one of the fastest-growing areas in Central Texas. It’s also expected to relieve crowding at ACC’s Cypress Creek campus in Cedar Park.

This new educational building will feature a smaller version of the Highland Campus ACCelerator. It’s a high-tech learning lab that provides access to more than 6-hundred computer work stations. Click here to learn more about the campus.
