AUSTIN (KXAN) — As the rain continues to fall and the possibility of flooding remains, some school districts have decided to delay start time on Tuesday.
- La Grange ISD: Two-hour delay Tuesday
- Smithville ISD: Two-hour delay Tuesday
- Waelder ISD: Two-hour delay Tuesday
How Schools Make Their Decision
The Round Rock Independent School District received a lot of flak on social media for not delaying school on Monday but the district’s spokesperson Corey Ryan said they take those calls very seriously.
“There were some of the low-water crossings that are typically closed with even moderate to light rain but no significant road closures at 5:30 a.m. and it looked like the brunt of any weather was going to happen between 8:30, 9 o’clock 9:30, 10 o’clock in the morning,” explained Ryan.
Many school districts usually make their decisions early in the morning. Lockhart ISD said they sent out scouts to check on roads around 3:30 a.m. Monday morning and there were no significant problems so school started on time. However, with the potential for more rain tonight, Lockhart ISD decided to end the school day three hours early.
