ROUND ROCK (KXAN) — Friday is the opening day at the Dell Diamond in Round Rock. Attendees might not notice the changes to the stadium, but there is a lot going on behind the scenes.

The Express take the field at 7 p.m. Friday night. There are still tickets available.

One of the biggest priorities in the stadium’s upgrades was fixing the outdated 16-year-old sound system. Using money from the hotel tax the city says they will not only be able to pay for a new sound system, including speakers and a new control room, but also eventually upgrade the park with soccer fields.

The city is also looking to spend an extra $500,000 to repave the stadium parking lot and install LED lights in the parking lot. Over the next two years, Round Rock might also fix the fire sprinkler system and replace the field lights with LED lights.

Governor Greg Abbott is throwing out the first pitch. The game starts at 7:05 p.m. and gates open at 5:30 p.m.

In 2018, Round Rock could vote to spend another $1 million to replaced and add seating to the stadium. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
