AUSTIN (KXAN) — Police have identified the victim in a motorcycle crash on Avery Ranch Boulevard on Friday, April 1.

Lanny Peterson, 39, was riding westbound in the 15500 block of Avery Ranch at 1:29 p.m. when he hit a curb, ejecting him from the motorcycle. Peterson, who was not wearing a helmet, hit a stone wall, suffering head injuries.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. The Austin Police Department says speed does not appear to be a factor in the crash, but Peterson neither had a motorcycle license nor a valid Texas driver’s license. Toxicology results are still pending from the Medical Examiner’s Office.

As the case is still under investigation, anyone with information on the crash is asked to call the APD Vehicular Homicide Unit at (512) 974-5312. The Apr. 1 crash was Austin’s 17th fatal traffic crash and the 17th fatality of 2016.
