Stolen car crashes into house after chase in South Austin

Inside and outside damage to the home after stolen car crashed in South Austin.

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A high speed chase on South Congress ended when a car crashed into a house giving the homeowners a startling awakening.

“We thought somebody has busted through the front door, it woke us up, pretty scary,” said homeowner Victoria Roman.

The police pursuit began around 2:55 a.m. when reports came in of a stolen Lexus. Officers lost sight of the Lexus until they found it crashed into a house at Libyan and Speer at 3 a.m. The house was occupied at the time, but no one was injured.

The suspect fled on foot. Police are currently not searching for the suspect because they have surveillance video of him from a neighboring home.

Police are still on the scene waiting for a tow truck. An Air 1 Helicopter and K9 units assisted with the search.
