AUSTIN (KXAN) — Parents know a trip to the hospital is never easy when their little one is battling an illness. A Central Texas family is trying to make that experience better for everyone by putting a smile on the patients and their families.

Joining us in the KXAN studio is Tim Wilks, he founded the Jennifer Wilks Foundation on behalf of his daughter who passed in 2005 from childhood cancer. Wilks established the foundation in his daughter’s memory.

The goal is to help the children who are cancer patients and their families who are fighting similar battles at the new Dell Children’s Hospital. The foundation serves meals to families of patients in the cancer wing of the hospital on the 1, 3, 4, 5 Wednesday of every month. Annually they grant a wish to three Austin children battling childhood cancer.

The 11 annual Jennifer Wilks Foundation Golf Tournament is Friday, April 22 at the Star Ranch Golf Club.
