(WTNH) — If you still haven’t filed your taxes, there’s a good chance it’s because you know you owe money or you just haven’t had time. Whatever the reason, we’ve got your back.
If you’re still planning to file, you may be feeling the pressure to get it all done, correctly. We made a checklist for you with 8 things you need to remember as you work hard to make deadline.

Tax attorney Eric Green says first and foremost, make sure all your information is there. “Nothing is going to trigger an audit faster than if you forget a W-2 or a 1099 so make sure it’s all there.” said Green.

1. Include all your information
2. Changes to tax laws
3. Keep your receipts
4. Carefully choose your preparer

Green also says it’s important you review your taxes before they’re submitted to ensure your preparer got it right, “We have had folks come in where they’ve received notices, they’ve been audited, and we go through it and they don’t know what we’re talking about. It says you have a side business. I don’t have a side business. It’s something the preparer made up.”

5. Review before submitting
6. Make sure it’s signed by your preparer
7. Save your documents
8. Understand extension rules

An extension gives you more time to file, not necessarily to pay and you will have to pay interest on what you owe.
