KYLE, Texas (KXAN) — A 16-year-old male has been arrested in connection to the drive-by shooting death of a Kyle teenager.

Kyle police say the shooting happened around 3:50 p.m. Saturday at the 300 block of Discovery. Police say a vehicle slowly drove by a home and fired shots at 18-year-old Natanaell Bardales, who was standing outside. When officers arrived on scene they found the victim, Bardales, with a gunshot wound to the head. Bardales was transported to University Medical Center Brackenridge where he died about an hour later.

“I pulled up and the cops told us to stay back and they said Natanaell had got shot,” said Daimean, a friend of the victim’s. Daimean knew the victim, he says they met six years ago at Lehman High School in Kyle.

“I just saw him last week, he was smiling,” remembers Daimean. “I didn’t know he had a little brother, and he was with one of my other younger friends and now he’s gone.”

Even thought the suspect vehicle drove off, witnesses did give police two possible suspect names. Late Saturday evening, the Kyle Police Department said they arrested the 16-year-old suspect, who also lives in Kyle, in the Post Oak community. The suspect is currently in the Hays County Juvenile Detention Facility charged with murder. His name is not being released because he’s a minor.

“In our normally quiet community we’ve had our second shooting within a week and we’ve had other instances here in the community,” says Kyle Police Chief Jeff Barnett. This is Kyle’s second murder in a week.

“I’ve lost another friend, this is my third friend I’ve lost in Kyle. I don’t know, a lot of people getting killed out here in Kyle,” says Daimean. Another friend Daimean has to say goodbye to, and he’ll never forget their last words to each other. “He just told me that he missed me and where have I been hiding.”

Visitation for Natanaell at the Mission Funeral Home Serenity Chapel at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, followed by a prayer service at 7 p.m.
