AUSTIN (KXAN) — North Lamar Boulevard was closed during rush hour as firefighters battled a massive blaze at the Burger King at Lamar and Rundberg.

Fire investigators say a french fry machine caught fire and quickly engulfed the restaurant. Austin firefighters are reporting a total loss of the building in the accidental fire.

Firefighters were called to the scene at 9523 N. Lamar just after 8:30 Wednesday morning. The first fire unit on the scene reported heavy smoke inside the restaurant and everyone inside made it out safely.

The fire spread rapidly and forced firefighters to take a defensive stance and fight the blaze from outside the building.

There were no injuries reported.

All lanes of the roadway were back open by 10:30 a.m. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
