AUSTIN (KXAN) — The backlash continues on the recent campus carry decision at the University of Texas at Austin. The Dean of the Texas School of Architecture just announced that he is leaving the University.

Fritz Steiner has accepted a new position as the Dean of the School of Design at the University of Pennsylvania. Steiner said he would not have considered leaving if not for the campus carry law.

“I thought I would be responsible for enforcing a law I don’t believe in,” Steiner told the Associated Press.

Earlier this month, University of Texas President Greg Fenves announced he will allow guns in classrooms. Fenves says he does not like the decision, but was obligated to uphold the law. A new task force was implemented to monitor the impact on campus.

Campus carry officially goes into effect on Aug. 1.
