Transformer fire left almost 7,000 without power in Georgetown

GEORGETOWN, Texas (KXAN) — A transformer fire in Sun City, Georgetown led to a power outage that left 6,800 homes without electricity Thursday evening.

The Georgetown Fire Department responded and put out the fire, according to Keith Hutchinson with the city of Georgetown. Crews also responded and restored power to all but nine customers by 7:20 p.m. All power was restored as of 9:15 p.m.

The Georgetown Police Department is investigating the incident. Police believe that the transformer fire was due to a vehicle that struck the transformer and left the scene. Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to call the Georgetown Police Department at 512-930-3510.
