AUSTIN (KXAN) — After trying to resuscitate a Chihuahua pulled from a house fire in South Austin, the Austin Fire Department says the dog did not make it.

The fire started just before 8 a.m. in the 1500 block of Sahara Avenue. When firefighters arrived at the home, there was heavy fire coming from the attic of the home.

One person was home at the time and was alerted by their smoke alarm and a neighbor. When the dog was pulled out, firefighters used an oxygen mask to try to revive it but the dog ended up dying.

The fire did $175,000 in structural damage. A cause of the fire has not been determined at this time.
