Billions expected to be spent for Valentine’s Day

LANSING, MI (WLNS) – Valentine’s Day is just two short days away, are you ready to splurge on your significant other?

You may be surprised just how much people spend on this holiday and the extremes some will go to if they don’t get anything at all.

6 News Anchor Justin Kree spoke with about what your sweet heart is hoping for.

Cupids will have his arrows flying this Sunday, will your sweet heart be one of the lucky ones to be hit?

There are a few industries that are hoping to see hearts as well as dollar signs this February 14.

First let’s look at the cards, candy and flower industries. According to, more than $1.15 billion will be spent on greeting cards and $1.76 billion on candy.

But the most surprising is flowers, roses are green this day with 20 percent of all flowers will sold around valentine’s Day and close to $2 billion growing in the flower shops.

For you guys out there, if you don’t think February 14 is a big deal, 53 percent of women say they would break up with their significant other if they didn’t get anything for Valentine’s Day.

If your main love has four legs, 1 in 5 people are expected to buy a Valentine for their pet.
