SEGUIN, Texas (AP) — A South Texas man convicted on more than a dozen child sexual abuse charges has been sentenced to 892 years in state prison.

Edward Navarro was convicted on eight counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child, two counts of indecency with a child and four counts of sexual assault of a child.

A Guadalupe County jury then sentenced the 42-year-old Navarro to the maximum prison term on each count, to be served consecutively.

The Seguin Gazette-Enterprise reports police in 2014 began investigating reports of several children being molested. Detective Lance Wright says the allegations involved abuse of girls and boys, beginning in 1995 and continuing into 2006.

Navarro was sentenced last Thursday in Seguin, about 30 miles northeast of San Antonio. Several other defendants still face prosecution.
