AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin police are investigating after a Union Pacific train hit a stalled car at the railroad crossing at Banister Lane in South Austin early Wednesday morning.

Police say the car stalled on the tracks and the track could not be closed in time before the train hit the car. The train pushed the car 700 yards upon impact.

A police spokesman said the driver of the car was cited by Austin police for driving while intoxicated.

The train was traveling northbound from New Braunfels loaded with rocks to take to Kansas City.

No one was hurt in the crash. The scene was cleared before 6:00 a.m.
