APD steps up DWI enforcement for Super Bowl, Mardi Gras weekend

AUSTIN (KXAN) — No Refusal DWI weekend has arrived as Austinites plan to party for the Super Bowl, Mardis Gras, and Fat Tuesday.

The initiative will allow Austin police to use a search warrant for testing blood or breath alcohol levels on those who refuse.

Police will be on high alert:

  • Feb. 6 from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
  • Feb. 7 from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
  • Feb. 9 from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.

APD says they want everyone to make responsible decisions so they can arrive alive.
