AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin ISD Police are investigating a report of inappropriate behavior between a teacher and a student at the Ann Richards School in South Austin.

The police chief says allegations point to an incident before Christmas break.

A school district spokesperson says the teacher has been on administrative leave with pay since January 5, when school resumed for the spring semester. At this time, the district will not release the name of the teacher, because no charges have been filed.

The Ann Richards School for Young Women is Austin’s only all-girls public school that serves grades six through 12. The school opened its doors in 2007 and graduated its first class in 2013.

Over the past three school years, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) says the number of investigations involving inappropriate relationships increased from 141 in 2009-10 to 179 in 2013-14 and 188 in 2014-15. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
