AUSTIN (KXAN) – A South Austin man who matched five out of six numbers on the Powerball drawing before it hit a billion plus dollars has claimed his prize.

The Texas Lottery Commission confirmed Wednesday that Hector J. Tello bought the winning ticket on January 9th from the Valero Corner Store at 4600 W. William Cannon Drive.

Tello’s Quick Pick with Power Play matched all five white balls (16-19-32-34-57), but not the red Powerball (13). Had he, the prize was 900 million big ones. $2 million isn’t anything to sneeze at, though.

Tello requested minimal publicity when claiming his prize. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
