NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas (KXAN) — The victims of the two New Braunfels kidnapping attempts detail being held at gunpoint in the middle of the afternoon, in an exclusive interview with KXAN.
On Saturday, around 1 p.m. a New Braunfels dad (who wishes to remain anonymous) says he entered the parking lot at the McKenna Events Center off of San Antonio Street in New Braunfels. That afternoon his youngest son was there to play a game of basketball. He dropped off his wife and three kids, then circled the parking lot to find a parking spot.
He finally found a spot in an empty lot across the street from the center. As soon as he unlocked the doors to get out, according to the dad, a white man wearing a bandanna and red hoodie got into his passenger seat, held him at gun point, and told him to drive. The two men only went a mile down the road when the victim knew he had to do something.
“[I] grabbed the wrist of the gun hand and pointed it up, and with my other hand I leaned over, and hit the door open,” remembers the victim. He says that motion was enough to scare the suspect and he took off running from the car.
The following day, a young woman in New Braunfels says she was approached by the same man around 2 p.m. as she was driving on South Kowaldn Lane. Sabrina (who wishes to not share her last name) was out running an errand when a man in a red hoodie and bandanna waved her down, she pulled over to ask if he was okay. Sabrina says when she rolled down her window that’s when the whole situation started. “He didn’t say anything, he just reached his hand in the window, unlocked it, got in the car, set the gun on his lap, and told me to drive.”
“How can I get back to my baby girl?”
Sabrina says the man told her to take him to Houston. After two hours of driving around Comal County, the man agreed to let Sabrina use the bathroom, so she pulled the car over at a bar called Barbarossa Trough. Sabrina knew she had to make an escape, she kept thinking: “How can I get back to my baby girl? How can I get back to my family? And that is when everything came to me”
She managed to grab a pocket knife from her driver side door, stab the man the leg and made her getaway. As she ran to the bar for help, Sabrina says she saw the man wobbling into a field with the knife still in his leg.
The first victim described the suspect as a white/Hispanic man, approximately 5’8″ to 5’10” tall, approximately 40-50 years of age, and gray hair. Sabrina says her attacker is described as a white man, possibly in his 30s and approximately 6″ tall. Both victims indicated their suspect had a black bandana on his head and some type of red jacket or hoodie.
