MORRISTOWN, N.J. (AP) — Officials say a northern New Jersey council member died shortly after helping treat his 19-year-old daughter and another person who had been involved in a car crash.

Eskil “Scott” Danielson, a member of the Andover Borough Council and an emergency services unit, was dispatched to a crash Saturday afternoon along state Route 206 on the border of Byram Township and Andover Borough.

Authorities say the 49-year-old father learned that his daughter Alycia was involved in the crash and helped treat her and the occupant of the other vehicle.

Danielson suffered a massive heart attack and collapsed while waiting at a Newton hospital to check on his daughter. He was airlifted to a Morristown hospital Saturday night where he was pronounced dead.

“The incredible bond we all share was evidenced once again by the immediate willingness of our brother and sisters to step up and cover our first due for us during this time of mourning,” the Lakeland Emergency Squad said on their Facebook the next day.

Officials say Alycia Danielson has been discharged from the hospital. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
