LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) — A former El Paso County, Texas, judge has been found guilty of embezzlement in New Mexico.

The Las Cruces Sun-News reports that a Las Cruces jury on Wednesday found Anthony Cobos guilty of one county of embezzlement over $20,000 after he was accused of defrauding a couple of more than $43,000 in a property deal.

Cobos is facing up to nine years in prison when the sentencing phase of his trial begins Thursday.

The former Texas judge is already serving a four-year sentence on a 2013 federal corruption conviction.

Cobos was El Paso County’s the highest administrative official from 2007 to 2010. He pleaded guilty to taking bribes in exchange for his influence in steering a $40 million county bond refinancing contract to an investment bank.
