AUSTIN (KXAN) — Officers say they’re making progress with community policing in North Austin.

Monday, the Police Activities League of Austin played some pop-up street games at Jaime Padron Elementary School on Rundberg Lane.

For two hours, officers played soccer, basketball and kickball with local students. Everyone says it makes a big impact.

“I think they just came here to help us and just play with them or keep us safe”, Fabeola Torres said.

Officer Jeremy Bohannon with the Austin Police Department said, “We see a lot of these kids at first and they don’t want to talk to you, they kind of shut down on you and, after you go out and have fun with them, you show them you’re a human too.”
