AUSTIN (KXAN) — In the span of 17 days, the Austin Police Department arrested 229 people for driving while intoxicated as part of its holiday no refusal program. Austin police conducted the No Refusal from Dec. 18-Jan. 3.
Of the 229 arrests, 89 of the drivers consented to a breathalyzer, 18 consented to blood samples and 119 warrants were issued for blood samples. Three of the arrested were under the legal drinking age.
During No Refusal, if a driver doesn’t want to provide a breath or blood sample, the officer can ask a judge to issue a warrant for a blood sample.
