Austin prepares for New Year’s Eve celebrations

AUSTIN (KXAN) —  Unlike 2014, this year ice is not in the forecast for the New Year’s Eve celebrations and city leaders in Austin are planning a big family friendly event at Auditorium Shores.

The party gets underway at 4 p.m. with more than a dozens bands playing throughout the night like Grupo Fantasma and Carolyn Wonderland.  While the event is alcohol free there will be food trucks on site and tons of kids activities.  The Thinkery will offer science projects, Sky Candy will perform aerial moves, and other groups will provide art projects.

City officials recommend anyone attending the event park at city hall, the Palmer Events Center, or Austin Convention Center.  The New Year’s Eve celebration is free and open to the public.  Fireworks will go off at 10 p.m. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
