Man arrested after trying to take taser from police officer

AUSTIN (KXAN) – One man was arrested after attempting to grab a taser from an Austin police officer while he was being detained.

According to a police arrest affidavit Samuel Boyd, 23, has been charged with Attempting to Take a Weapon from a Peace Officer, a State Jail Felony, along with Evading a Detention, a Class A Misdemeanor.

On Christmas Eve police responded to a hotshot disturbance at the Village at Gracy Farms at 7:00 p.m. When officers arrived on scene they were directed to an apartment where a disturbance was in progress.

Police found Samuel Boyd and a roommate on the floor as the roommate was trying to restrain Boyd. After separating the two an officer began to detain Boyd with handcuffs before he resisted, getting free of the officer and began moving towards a roommate in an aggressive manner.

It was at this time the officer brought Boyd to the ground in order to detain him. During the altercation Boyd grabbed another officer’s taser before being stopped, according to the affidavit.

After Boyd was placed in custody his roommates told officers that he had recently consumed LSD.
